Montana Accessibility Inventory

Description: The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) was awarded an America’s Transportation Award from the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) for its Montana accessibility inventory and investment program. The program utilized aerial photography, a field inventory of intersections across the state, and GIS mapping software to collect information on accessibility issues.  A process for prioritizing funding to upgrade intersections is being used to identify and fund accessibility and safety improvement projects in the state. The program’s innovative use of tablets and student interns to complete the field inventory covering 56,000 vehicle miles will be highlighted.

Webinar Speakers:  

Bob Seliskar is the Division of Civil Rights Specialist at the Montana Division of FHWA (Federal Highway Administration).  He will be working on a team next year to resolve ADA complaints across the country.  Bob is a graduate of Montana State University.

Matt Maze is the External ADA Coordinator for the Montana Department of Transportation, Office of Civil Rights, which is dedicated to ensuring that all beneficiaries and potential beneficiaries of the program are offered equal access and participation opportunities.  Matt received his Master’s degree in Architecture from Montana State University.

Miles Wacker is a Geospatial Systems Analyst for the Montana Department of Transportation.  Miles has 15 years of GIS and application development experience and is primarily responsible for software development and enterprise architecture, with expertise in GIS, database management, mobile applications, GPS, cartography and remote sensing.
