Abstract:
This toolkit provides a summary of training methods for bus drivers and transit staff to improve the safety and accessibility of services for passengers. Often transit agencies have little to no training available to help drivers better serve seniors and persons with disabilities. This toolkit was created especially for bus drivers and others in transit systems that lack these training opportunities. The Toolkit contains the following resources: methods to motivate drivers and staff to provide better service; model pocket-size guides for public transit drivers and staff; posters to promote safe and accessible service; model public service announcements; information on preparing a disability awareness event; and a list of resources for more comprehensive training.
