Vision Zero

The webinar will give and overview of the zero deaths approach, major national initiatives, and FHWA’s commitment to eliminating deaths and serious injuries on all roadways. It will also focus on local Vision Zero efforts; therefore will introduce the work of the Vision Zero Network – a nonprofit organization promoting the goal of Vision Zero – zero traffic deaths and severe injuries among all road users. Vision Zero can help bring focus and strategy to a transportation safety plan.
The zero deaths approach was first adopted in Sweden in 1997 as “Vision Zero” and since then has spread around the world. Its vision is that even one traffic-related death is unacceptable. The approach has proven successful and has been adopted widely in the United States at the national, state, and local levels. It applies the Safe Systems principles to prioritize safety for all road users across our transportation system.
